I have a Joseph Lidl Schmidt wrapped double French horn, which I have been told was made in Czech - 1909?
The horn matches another Schmidt/Lidl that I have seen. The name RENE LORENZ is engraved on the bell, but the horn has no other engraving except "15 on the piston valve. Can you help me indentify the horn?
If you are very sure that the horn is a Lidl then "Rene Lorenz" is most likely a "Stencil". Stencil brands are made by just making a deal with the maker to have your name put on the horn as the brand. Lidl has a history of doing this. Often you have to contract for a certain number of instruments before the manufacturer will let you sell it as your brand. Stencils are just another way of getting more horns sold.
The "15" is just a shop mark to keep the various valve sets together.
