How often can I use therapeutic ultrasound?
I've been receiving therapeutic ultrasound from a physical therapist 2x per week. It has helped my plantar fasciitis. I just bought a personal therapeutic ultrasound device that works at 1MHz which, I understand, is the correct frequency for my uses, and I am wondering how often I can use therapeutic ultrasound, and what is the optimal times-per-week to use it? And, is it possible to overuse it? Thanks!
Yes, you can overuse it.
You do need to talk to your PT. THere are usually differences between what is used in the clinic and what is used for home. I'd bring it in with you next time you visited so that the PT can check the power that the US machine has so that you can get a good time frame and power level.
Also-realize that US is not fixing the underlying problem, but merely solving the symptoms. You need to figure out what is causing the facitis and fix it.
