My son is 10 and he is using a bedwetting alarm. He wears a sensor over his penis that detects urine?
He is complaining about having to get up and change clothes every night. He said he wants a break from the alarm. Should I let him?
First, it is his body, and if he wishes to give something a go, then sure. Why not? It is how we learn, trial and error leading to trial and success.
That said, you can still offer him alternatives and suggestions, too. One suggestion is the use of a disposable or washable bed pad to keep the bed dry. Another is the use of disposable or washable diapers (which are now made for older children and do not look like baby diapers, e.g. GoodNights or UnderJams). There are also other bedwetting alarms available, including some bedwetting systems that combine washable/reusable absorbent underwear with a pocket for the bedwetting sensor to go.
It is his body and his life, though he should be doing his own laundry and clean-up at his age; and as such, it is his right to manage this problem. It is only your duty to usurp his right should he begin to fail, but this should be diplomatic and thoughtful.
As for the other jerks posting, just ignore the trolls and continue to love and support your son.
Cheers!
